Hello Tim,

My original battery box was sized for the Odyssey and was mounted on the RH side of the firewall. I have always had an Aero Lithium battery battery (much smaller than lead acid) installed in acft and just 'shimmed' it to fit in the large Odyssey sized battery box. Once I was confident the LiFe PO battery was dependable enough I just got rid of the large battery box and made one to specifically fit the Lithium. You can see in photo #3 & #8 it is mounted on the RH side about 2/3 the way down the FW. Plenty of clearance for turbo exhaust.
That scat tubing you refer to is exiting the box I mounted to and behind the oil cooler. I went this route instead of the baffling mod that comes with the turbo/top mount oil cooler kits. It was another experiment (that didn't work) to use oil cooler exit air as heat for the cabin. I no longer use it for cabin heat but it does not affect oil cooling, it still works great keeping oil cool.
Very observant with regards to the Rotec TBI…. the blue thing between the carb and air filter is another experiment. It's an air straightener. Basically 1/4" honeycomb sandwiched between two pieces of .025 aluminum (or aluminum :D ) and filled in with blue epoxy (Super Fil). I don't know if it works or not, but it weighs nothing so I left it.
Those things mounted to side of fuel filler extension are the voltage regulator/rectifier. I't actually have two of them sandwiched together so that I am always carrying a spare. If one fails I just swap the leads over to the spare one.
Yes that is a heat shield covering the MGL Floscan fuel flow transmitter.
The silver colored thing on the LH side of FW is the cabin heat valve. From Aircraft Spruce. Control cable is on the inside.

Just as a side note, I used to live in Leiston, just down the street from you. Left there just before you guys went to your new money..1969.

I moved my full size Odyssey battery to the pilot side, all the way to the edge of the firewall and just under the top part of the engine mount. then made a side-exit door for it since the engine mount was in the way to remove or install the battery.

This allowed room for my Sonex made old style slanted oil separator also on the firewall on that side. It's crowded, but it fits.

Not yet flying, been goofing around with bearing tightness lately.

What is the manufacturer and specific model details of the battery you are using? It sounds like it could save me some weight - very necessary in the case of my Sonex #1555

Leiston has never been the same since you left (Had you been working on the nuclear power station- or on one of the USAF bases: Woodbridge or Bentwaters - long since closed?)

My battery is an Aerolithium. (aerolithium.com) Unfortunately I have not had response from them since I bought the battery back in 2013. Their websit is still up and very informative, but they seem to be gone….. Anyway, it is a 6.6Ah with 330 CCA weighs 3.2lbs and measure 5.5 x 4.5 x 3.2 inches. If this one ever fails I would probably replace it with a EarthX ETX36C. You can also Google them. I talked to them at Oshkosh last year and they seem pretty good. At least they're making an effort to get in to aircraft.
