Tandem Sonex

Postby reodds » Sat Feb 21, 2015 6:32 pm

Hi Everyone! I am a noobie to Sonex, and first wish to thank all those who have answered my questions and concerns in the intro discussion. After a fairly careful search without answer, I was wondering; has anyone made or thought of making a tandem Sonex, or a tandem Onex (Twoex?)

The reason I ask is because the cockpit of the Sonex as we all know is tight (especially for us "big boys"), and by making the seating tandem inside of side by side it would solve what seems to be everyone's major criticism of the design.

Please be gentle with me, I am absolutely not an airplane designer or an aeronautical engineer, so this is possibly just a fantasy without any concept of reality. Any thoughts?

There has been good natured ribbing with the Sonex design team at open houses by a few of us to do just such a plane. I think they like their product line just fine. A two place Panther (Cougar) could change their mind if it starts to eat away market share.

Now that Sonex has perfected the folding wing with the Onex, I think they'd sell a lot more Xenos if they integrated that into it. Heck even offer a retro kit for us Sonex guys!

The Couger sounds interesting. Is it anywhere near a reality?
