The Trig is one solution.

The certified GPS component is http://www.trig-avionics.com/tn70.html and the Transponder component is http://www.trig-avionics.com/tt22.html

At the time I spoke to Trig during AirVenture, this had just been released. It meets the mandate from what I can tell, but as previously mentioned, the entire solution costs nearly $5000 just to purchase, much less install and get signed off.

Gulf Coast Avionics lists these items at

TN70
$3,189

TT22
$2595

To get this thread back to being complete, here is a copy of the original post:

I have a Sonex with Jabiru 3300, MGL Stratomaster avionics. I do not have a transponder and with all of the cross country flying I like to do, I would like to add a transponder. With ADS-B coming in another 5 years, I am torn as to what to do. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I am not the builder (second owner) and I have been flying this bird since 2010 and love every minute of it.

I live in class c so i have to have a transponder. To buy something decent is going to be about $2500 and less.
So the $3500 for the trig ads-b out hardware is is pretty fair. Everything has to be installed and it looks like the trig unit would be simplest of all. Still much time to do the ads-b out, But it is getting time when purchasing a transponder... to think about what is going to work coming up. I am sure Dynon may come to bat soon but as yet they are not compliant, and I think I read somewhere the trig transponders are what Dynon is using to some degree.
My spot right now is I have all my panel stuff including an older Terra transponder I purchased yellow tagged at
a cheap/fair price. The problem is it is so long it will not fit between the panel and the fuel tank, so I can not use it.
So...now I want to buy a transponderI know will work for me past tomorrow.
