I was just quoting the figues listed on the sonex website:

They list cruse speed for the aerovee at sea level as 130 mph and for the Jabiru 3300 135 mph. The diffence goes up as the altitude goes up. They list the aerovee at 150 mph cruise for 8000' and the Jabiru at 170 mph.

I think Kip is dead on here. 40 more horse power is going to give tons more climb and cruise. In fact, what numbers do you see in cruise Kip? I'd be interested in what others are cruising at, both with the Aerovee and Jabiru...

I figured that. My "real world" experience differs a bit... :)

I have not been in formation with an Aero-Vee at sea level but at 3000' I would estimate a 20 mph advantage with me at econo-cruise and the AV at normal cruise.

I should add that my real world experience includes never seeing the Sonex "170 mph at 8000'". I see more like 155. I think you would have to have it full throttle and a good waxjob for that figure.

If I had to guess...averaging altitudes, power settings, airframes differences...

Normal Jabiru 3300 cruise TAS...155 (I see 145 at low end cruise, 2750 rpm)
Normal Aero-Vee cruise TAS......120?

If I were selling Jab 3300 powered Sonex's those are the figures I would publish, too.

I'm sure that they sell some airplanes from those figures (it was a selling point for me).

Then again, it causes discussions like these... :roll:
