I did talk to sonex and (long story short) they told me there was enough thread engagement on my case.

I got the engine mounted this morning. I did the work alone. I leveled the airframe and measured to the mounting posts and made a rolling stand out of some apple boxes and a furniture dolly that got the holes to the correct height. Then I just carefully walked the engine off the table and onto the rolling stand. It matched up pretty good all I needed to do was ad some small door shims to get everything lined up. I used soapy water to get the bushings on and everything else just seemed to work out from there. I measured and everything is spot on.

It's a big step forward. I'm thinking the engine mout bolts should go front to back unless that is impossible to accomplish.

Great job Dana! I'm always amazed at the ingenuity we builders have when trying to complete a job solo!

I believe the current AeroVee assembly manual says the motor mount bolts can go on either way. Just make sure you are using the large fender washers as prescribed in the manual to compress the rubber bushings.

If I had a great mind I'd say that great minds think alike. To lift my engine I used a heavy duty wooden stool strapped onto a hydraulic motorcycle jack like this one:

It has been a good day of progress. After getting the engine on I got all of the wiring in except for some of the probes and finishing up the starter. I had to order the correct type of loctite for the bolts. Once I have the probes wired I will clean up the all the cables.

Exhaust and CHT's finished. I am going to put the intake and Aerocarb on and start the cowl tomorrow.

Hey Dana,

Looks great, is the heat shield behind the exhaust outlets standard or something you thought up? I don't recall seeing it in my exhaust set or on the plans, but I like the idea!
