ELEVATOR TRIM

I am building ONEX 0176 and would please like a general consensus of the need for the elevator trim system. I have had some builders voice that the system isn't necessary. I would certainly like to hear from those who have finished and fly their ONEX as well as other builders opinions.

I also have the stock manual trim and love it. Super simple and super effective. You definitely want trim. I use it all the time for take-off, landing (especially), and cruise (like when changing power settings).

I'm still kicking around schemes for trim tabs on my Waiex. Building the wings now, but eventually I'll get to that. Anybody care to share the part of the sonex plans that shows the trim tab installation including (especially) the cable part?

I don't think a trim tab is an option o a Waiex. With the y tail you need to use the spring adjust that comes with the kit/

You could make a little trim mixer and have both rudder and elevator trim. That would be fun but a little nuts too. I plan to use the spring trim for pitch on my Waiex.

You would have to get rather innovative to put trim tabs on the Y tail. Just go with the spring system.

I started out with the DialATrim on my Waiex. I didn't like the limited travel of it and couldn't find a happy sweet spot.
I removed it and installed an electric trim of my own design using a 12V motor, cable spool and the same spring from the DialATrim.
Works great and I wired it to the up/down on a 4 way high hat on the stick. I put in another system to trim the ailerons on the left/right switch. It just biases springs on the aileron rods using the same winch spool on a small 12v Motor.

Yes, slightly inovative but fun and totally nuts. I'd just like to see how the Sonex plans show the linkage.

I think Bonanzas have trim tabs. So someone figured it out.

The bonanza guys probably looked at the old model airplane (pre computer mixing) v-tail setups for inspiration on their trim. Or if you just want elevator trim move them together.
