In-Flight Cameras

I have seen quite a few Sonex videos on youtube and now that I am flying I am wondering what everyone is using for cameras and mounts on their Sonex.

I have a GoPro Hero 3+ camera with an audio input cable from Sportys Pilot Shop for intercom input. I recommend the Bluetooth camera remote if possible. It's not cheap but makes life a lot easier!

The camera comes with several mounts. I simply use one of those and use 3M double sided tape to mount the camera. Note: I haven't tried any exterior shots though; all mine are inside the airplane.

I use Contour cameras. I just duct tape them onto the wing or tail. I have also made a mount that attaches to the tie-down under the wing.

I use the GoPros inside and out. I find no problem or fear using the self adhesive pads that come with the camera for outside use. I did however clean the mounting surface well, used a heat gun to warm up the surface and the pad before applying. Then I waited a day before use. The pads have been in use for over a year and still appear well attached. Hope this helps

I still use a GoPro Hero 1. I kinda hope I lose it so I have an excuse to upgrade to one of the new cameras. Damn thing is always there when I land though.

Thanks for the replies. I think my only requirement is going to be that I have to be able to turn it on and off remotely so if it is wing mounted I don't end up with 2 hours of video for the 5 minutes I want. All the Go-Pro 3's seem to have that feature through an iphone app but I haven't looked too hard into the others yet. Anybody looked into the cheap knock offs like the SJ4000 or Ion Cool i Cam S3000? They are a 1/4 of the price of a go-pro and I'm wondering just how bad could they be for the money.

I use a Swann Freestyle HD that at ten feet it looks like a GoPro. Got it new on EBay new for $100. Has a remote and takes great videos. Came with all The mounts and 3M pads. I mounted it above the windscreen on my T51 and also use the GoPro headband mount to shoot what I see. The only negative for me is that it has a built in mike and I haven't figured out how to patch Into my headset. EBay has several action cameras. I also use a JVC action camera that does a good job but has no remote.

They just came out with a SJ4000 WiFi version which I want to get my hands on. Which allows remote control, as well as using your phone or ipad as a monitor. BIG warning, the SJ4000's are so good, there are knock-off of it! So make sure which one you buy if going that route. Also the new WiFi version to my understanding has a cable that can feed it audio. At about 120.00 great price.

I am wanting to attach my gopro camera to the outside of my plane. Preferably to one of my ruddervators on my Waiex. Since the ruddervator is at an angle to the horizontal plane of the plane, the camera when attached would not be level. Those of you that have already done this, what did you use to get the camera level with the inflight attitude of the plane?
