how to enlarge opening in inboard wing rib for better access

Postby dtwolcott » Wed Nov 05, 2014 11:11 am

I am wanting to remove part of the inboard wing rib for better access to make the connecting of the aileron control tube easier. I have seen some pictures posted that show what someone had done to accomplish this but I can't seem to find it on this site. Does anyone know who has done this and posted pictures of their results.

Here is what I did: http://www.rynoth.com/wordpress/waiex/2 ... root-ribs/

Basically I just cut along the interior tangent between the 2 existing holes, then bent the remaining material to match the existing flange.

And Sonex says no reinforcement is necessary; just the turned up edges around the cutout.

Thanks guys
I appreciate the information. Now I can get this next project completed and then be ready to rig the wings.

Don,
Mine is over-engineered but worth a look.
See Darick's Sonex1646 in the photo thread.
