Aero Injector Needle Holder

Has anyone measured the end play in the ball joint of their needle holder? Mine has nearly 1/2 turn of play. How do you make 1/8 adjustments with that much play? Why doesn't it move on it's own when the engine is running. Two of us are making new holders with flat disks on the end, instead of a ball, with a controlled clearance of several thousandths.

Back when we had Yahoo Groups I asked that question. I could never get my mixture set. I finally looked up the carb while I was adjusting the screw. The screw moved a half turn before the needle moved.
Long story, shortened, I was told to sqeeze the ball end of the carrier in a vice until the play was gone. Worked great, no more messing with the mixture.
