Aerovee throttle friction

Hi All,

As you may know I recently conducted my first flight in Sonex #813.

One issue I did have was the friction adjustment on the throttle quadrant. I found it came loose rather easily and at one time I had to keep hold of the throttle to prevent backing off and attempt to retract flap. After a couple of tries I just flew the circuit slower with 10 deg of flap, and gave myself time to tighten it again.

Does anyone have any solutions to this, say like replacing the leather washer with something that has more bite? A bigger adjustment nut?
Being down under it is difficult to get US/imperial threaded hardware though... McMasters won't sell direct to Colonials either!

I find myself adjusting the throttle friction constantly. I loosen for takeoff and landing so I can easily adjust, then tighten during cruise to hold the position.
In 120 hours, I haven't found a happy medium. Its more a minor annoyance than a real problem for me.

Yeah, pretty much. This is experimental aviation. I have found lots of "features" with my plane that I would need to give any other pilot flying my plane a thorough checkout of them.

Tony, I had the same problem. Saw this on another builders photos. Works awesome! Bought from Amazon for $11.73 +$5.03 shipping. Had to buy 5, 4 left for my next 4 Sonex :) I don't know how to add a link.

Bryan, in the interest of better language skills feel free to use the term.. we hear it a lot downunder- or maybe its just me?

Thanks for the info on the knob Ken and Bryan, don't usually have a lot of success getting small bits of hardware from the US.. but I'll try.

Just to followup,

I made a 3/4" diameter rubber washer out of some 1/16" sheet I had lying around. I placed it between the handle and bracket on the pilot side.
Working so far after 3 hours of flight testing last weekend. The rubber washer provides enough friction on the handle to keep it from moving by itself with the factory knob tightened.
Still easy to move by hand if required, and retighten knob to hold if necessary.
