Good service from GRT / Princeton Electronics

Postby DCASonex » Wed Oct 01, 2014 8:00 pm

Had Princeton fuel level sender feeding my Grand Rapids Technology (GRT) Sport SX. After 2+ years in service, Readings started to go off a bit, showing more fuel than actually was in tank Tried to re-calibrate, but unit would not do so. Contacted GRT / Princeton and got some info on what to check, and advised it might be in the electronics and they would start making up a new unit just in case. Tried the suggestions, no joy. Contacted them again late in afternoon. they shipped replacement out next day, and I had it installed and flying following day. Works great, only charge was for the airfreight. Nice to know there are folks out there that stand behind their products and give good service. New unit is actually an upgrade with disconnect in line to sensor for easier installation and removal.

Camit engine running great, so now no remaining issues to keep me from ASA (except the weather and that does not look good.) Hope to see all there.

Robbie I haven't hooked it up to anything yet but I will let you know when I do and would appreciate it if you get your hooked up first if you could give a report. What I saw of it in Oshkosh impressed me.
I added the OAT probe and the moving map software also as a back up to my ifly gps.
I actually ordered the Mini B first but it took so long to get here (I ordered it back in March) that I had time to convince myself that I needed to have the synthetic vision so I upgraded.

What are you going to use for your engine monitor?

Hi Mike

I ordered the Mini X after winning a 25% discount coupon at the Great Lakes Sonex Fly In - it should be here soon.

I bought a used JPI Classic Engine scanner for monitoring EGT and CHT. I also bought a BeLite fuel gauge and fuel sensor.

Most of the panel will be round gauges. Personal preference.

Robbie, I have the Belite fuel gauge that I am trying to get to work with my Princeton Fuel Probe, but no luck, so I am considering the Belite fuel sensor. How do you like it so far? How do you mount it in the Sonex fuel tank? I read that the Belite probe is 1/4 NPT but my tank has the 1/8 npt port for a probe. I appreciate your insight because the fuel probe from Princeton is frustrating me.

I have the Belite probe. You have to use a reducer from ¼ to ⅛ npt on the tank.
I've been fighting an issue with it. It calibrated fine, reads fine while taxiing, but when I go to full throttle, it reads full, 5 volts. I think its noise generated from the Jabiru alternator when it spins up. I'm now down for my annual and will install a noise filter in the bus to try to solve it. I'm having some other electrical gremlins that might be associated with it. Going through all my wiring to make sure everything is properly grounded and shielded.
Belite has been great on support and working with me on this.
Another local Sonex/Jab guy has none of my issues with his Belite fuel probe.
