Hi Marc,

I meant the folder wing rib. Look at the picture. The micro stop countersink tool does a real good job. I am impressed with it.

Rheal, did you use an arbor press to bend your stab spars and verrtical stab spar fitting. If so what size press and if not how did you bend them.

Hi David,

For the stab, I have used Jeff Shultz Sonex 604 technique and I don't recommend that because the wood dowel is not strong enough (unless you use steel pipe). I then purchase a 12ton press that was on special at a local tool store ($149). A harbor press is more expensive and a 6ton table top one is probably OK but they were B/O at Harbor Freight. With the right tool the workmanship is quite better and done much faster and accurately. You will still need a 1 in. steel rod like the one on the picture that I had available from my scrap material.

Good luck.

ONEX0021 Bird eyes view status after 150 hours (see picture);

Rudder 100% completed
Ailerons 80% counterweights were B/O
Flaps 80%
Elevator 95%
H stab 90% skin installation left
V stab 90% skin installation left
Fuselage tail box 100%
FWD box 25% waiting for more drawings
Inboard wings 10%
Outboard wings 30%

Obviously all these remains to be assembled together and rigged. Based on this experience, I assume that 500 hours or less to assemble and complete a Onex is possible. Skins completion will take a lot of time (dimpling, riveting, etc). As usual, the details will take more time.

I have just ordered my Aerovee and the delivery date is estimated to be (guess what) 22 December 2011. Conway will be my Santa this year!

Here is a hint for the tail box construction (see picture); refer to DWG ONX-F17. ONX-F22-06 bottom tail bracket installation is shown but not the upper one(pic). In order to be able to slip this bracket in there, the only way is to install before completing the tail riveting or omit to install the last 4 RH upper tail side skin rivets so the bracket can be inserted through the skin hole and sideway twisted in place. I chosed to fit it in place before using the V stab assy.

Happy building.

Wow...your progress is amazing! I can't believe you've only been working 150 hours thus far. I'd have to check but I think at 150 hours I had finished my tail feathers and maybe main wing spars.

Keep up the good work! And also, don't be surprised if Sonex calls earlier than December for your engine. When I ordered mine I was first told 6-8 weeks but I think it ended up half that.

Keep the pictures coming!

Hi Michael,

Please note that I had ordered all options, it helps a lot especially the spars option.

Thank you for letting me know about the Aerovee, I will plan accordingly.

Hi Rheal,

You sure are smoking along ! Did you close up the rudder and other control surfaces ? Do they need the "pre cover" inspection ?
Thanks for the tip about the bracket . It will be a while before I'm that far !

Hi Marc,

The rudder is completed, I hope the inspector won't ask me to see inside. In any case, there is nothing but a rib inside. I am not decided yet on either Amateur build or Basic UL category. Therefore, the skins are not installed yet. If A-B is chosen then the inspector will require to see all structures uncovered. The MD-RA cost is estimated at $1,500 but the A/C value is may be higher for resale afterward. I am debating if it is worthed the expense... as I will be flying daytime and VFR only for fun.

Rheal of all the options which do you say is the most bang for your dollar.I was thinking I would get the wing and fuse options and skip the spar, but you seem to imply that the spar was maybe the best choice,or maybe I misunderstood?Your progress is phenominal :o
