first! would somebody please tell this 80yr old troglodyte that's not as smart as a five year old when it comes to computers and other electronics how to respond to a post without starting a new topic.I do not receive individual posts but rather grouped as a compendium.
Responding to MR. Farley [and possibly others] i apologize for my lack of clarity.I thought by my saying "recurrent muffler bearing problem" that it would be understood that i was not referring to first flights. My inquiry goes something like this;as you walk out to the ship after weeks or months of getting all the leaks, burps, prop pitch, timing ,fuel flow etc,AND! a number of uneventful fun flights;Do you say to yourself " GOD! i wish i had gotten brand X engine instead of this turkey or do you say;even with all the crap i had to deal with i love this baby[engine]and lets go commit aviation.
The definition of "crap" is not restricted to the mechanical stuff but also includes the responsiveness of the engines primary and secondary suppliers, the speed and accuracy with which your questions and problems are addressed, the acceptable or outlandish cost of replacements, shipping charges and the time it takes to receive them.Do you feel like a tolerated stepchild when calling "DA MAN" or as a welcome friend with a problem to be solved???
NOW! recall that the preceeding ONLY! applies to those who have bought/built, installed and flown behind BOTH a VW AND! Corvair.
Thanks for your feedback and i realize there aren't going to be many in the specified group.
