I have a Sonex A model with a Jabiru 2200. The previous owner had the breather tube running to an old paint thinner can that was zip tied to the engine mount. I want to replace it with something more appropriate. I was thinking of the aircraft spruce Crankcase vacuum complete kit. Part# 05-12429. Has anyone installed one of these on a Jabiru? Or is there another system that works well for the Jabiru?

It looks like a cool setup. The 1/2 VW motors use a check valve. They have a lot higher pressure fluctuations as they only have two cylinders, so the internal volume changes a lot. I've been considering trying a set of check valves on my setup. So I've got no experience but would like to hear more if you try it.

Will do! So far I haven’t been able to find anyone who has tried it on a Jabiru but I can’t find a reason why it wouldn’t work.

Jabiru used to provide a breather catch tank that I have on my plane with a 3300. it is simply a metal tube with fiberglass caps molded in the ends. An inlet on top and an outlet high on the side plus a drain valve on the bottom. Not sure what is inside that. Have seen other similar designs with a course form of steel wool stuffed in. On mine i have found the best way to prevent oil loss through the breather is to simply route the 1/2' hose up as high as possible along side the fuel filler before turning down and into the tank. Vent line from tank then goes out the bottom of the cowl.

I've had the original AeroConversions separator setup in my Waiex for over 10 years with my Jab3300 and never had any problems. They have supposedly upgraded the design and you can find it here:
