Carb Socket split

Note to the Jab3300/Aerocarb/Bing users. Last evening as I was modifying my carb mixture, I noticed that the carb "wiggled" more on the rubber Carb Socket than previously. The carb socket is the rubber piece between the intake manifold and the carb spigot (page 21, Key 9 in the parts manual). When I pulled the clamps off, got the unfortunate suprise below. This split was on the intake manifold side, not the carb side. I've taken the carb off a ton of times over the last 2 years, but never even really touched the intake manifold side of the assembly or clamp. This piece was around 6 years old, with about 110 hours of flight time in the last 2 years. Just ordered another one from Jab USA this morning.

It's one more item to make sure to put on the annual condition inspection checklist if it's not there already!

Good catch, Lorin. That part is easily overlooked!

Thnaks Kip. I couldn't even see it under the clamp. It just didn't "feel" right when I wiggled it. FYI - the darn things are really expensive!! $66 with shipping.

Hi Loren,

Don't know if you've seen these from JBM Industries:

I've used the JBM products before on Rotax engines and found them to be very well made and outlast he factory supplied ones.

Dunno if this helps ...

Looks like another item to keep in the spares bin.

Hi Dale,
I hadn't seen the JBM before - thanks!! Wish they had a normal order system though...
