Bing carb fuel line

Postby Rick524 » Sun Aug 14, 2016 11:02 pm

I'm running the fuel lines on my 3300 using the stock Bing carb. I'm using AN-6 braided
lines. The fuel line nipple on the Bing is 6MM (just under 1/4"), the AN-6 lines are 3/8".
What have others done to attach to the Bing nipple? I guess I could slip the hose over
it and tighten down a hose clamp, but hope there is a better way.

Thanks!

Hi Rick

Sorry, I dont know of a better way. I just used what the engine came with, 1/4" rubber fuel line. I covered the hose with fire sleeve from gascolator to mechanical pump to carb. All other fuel lines I used 3/8" aluminium tube with AN6 hardware.

Using non matching hardware like 3/8" rubber tube on the 1/4" or 6mm fittings, Could be quite dangerous.

Hi Rick, I machined my own adaptor - essentially just a short length of tube with one end bigger than the other. My fuel system is all 5/16" except for the engine.

Found that even the mismatch of 1/4" ID hose on that 6 mm barb into fuel pump can be problematic. (The output barb is 1/4") Would sometime suck a tiny bit of air at that fitting which would tend to vapor lock the pump. Now have that connection double clamped with the type of clamp used on higher pressure injection system, not worm gear type which tend to bunch the hose in one location. Entire system on engine side of firewall is 1/4" rubber fuel line with fire-sleeve, except for the long run of aluminum tube into the red cube, and that is also in fire-sleeve. (Also have cool air blast tube on the engine driven fuel pump that made a very big improvement on stability of fuel pressure.)

There's a way to do a fix that will allow use of AN fittings on the pump:
