Inspecting that at annual it was several turns loose. I don't think I've looked closely at it before.

When I overhaul someday I'll figure out a better way to safety it.

Is the nut coming loose, or does the stud rotate in the case?

Double nut the stud from the bottom, and if you can turn it, it needs to be Locktited to the case. An annoying drip will ensue if those studs aren't sealed.

We had debated which happened and guessed the nut moved based on the stud length sticking out the bottom. But, I'm not 100% sure.

Another forum member mentioned to me that he discovered that nut loose in the crankcase. We both looked for that step in the manual and he looked in the DVD. I think it comes preinstalled and there is no direction to check it during the build. I recommend checking it! Would probably be a good manual revision.

I installed longer studs because the stock studs were too short to use with the mini sump. When I did that I made another single purpose pretzel wrench to grab the nut. I now check the nut whenever I pull the sump to clean the strainer.

Peter, I almost made one too, but Adam was able to use several different 10mm wrenches with different indexing to get it. It was a pain! I'd be interested to see a photo of your wrench posted here.

I'll get one. That may be a good idea for a thread at some point, the crazy tools we make, or modify for a specific purpose.
