Hey all,
My dipstick seems pretty loose. Is this normal? Should I worry about it coming off?

Wobble side-to-side is normal. If it's more than a light thumb-sucking fit, it will be fine.

Gravity is holding it in place.

I never trusted the Sonex supplied stick. Very difficult to get in and out without a trap door. I used a stock VW oil supply checker....remarked of course.
It did necessitate a hole in the cowl to let it pass, but was worlds easier to read.

As far as your stick is concerned, try replacing the O-ring.

Mine has no O ring. What size and where does it go? On the tube or in the cap?

Inside the cap. Not a clue on the size. I'm sure Kerry has that information if you can get hold of him this close to the Fly-In.
I could dig mine out and check it if you can't get the scoop anywhere else. I'm sure I'll destroy it during removal, so if you just want me to send you the whole dipstick, PM me and I'll get it in the mail tomorrow.

Thanks Randy. I have one of those Harbor Freight oring kits, I'll mess around with them.

I discovered the slot for the O ring in the cap. My O rings are too thick. I'm going to be at Oshkosh in a week and will see if I can get one there.

Got the little "mother" out. Not easy to measure something as flexible as an O-ring with calipers, but here's what I came up with. And yes, I know the numbers don't quite add up; but what's an RCH among friends.
