When I shut my engine off the oil pressure on my velocity E-1 still reads 8 psi. Anyone else have this issue?

Hi Curry, I have a Dynon Skyview and sometimes it shows a little oil pressure before start. Last flight it showed 5 lbs before start. It reads fine after start up so I,m not concerned about it.

Those small variations are due to very small differences in the ground reference voltage at the sender vs the display. If you were to run a grounding wire from the sensor ground point (e.g. the sensor case) to the display ground pin they should disappear. It doesn't take much of a difference to register as a signal. You can ignore it, or can revise your grounding paths to eliminate it.

In my case, Jabiru 3300 engine with VDO oil pressure sender, that occurred because the sender was failing. I noticed that it occasionally didn't go below about 8psi when the engine was shut down but didn't worry about it too much until it started reading very high in flight. The sender resistance is supposed to be 10 to 180 ohms but when I checked the lowest resistance it was very inconsistent but around 50 ohms. Currently waiting for supply of a new sender.

I’ve noted this too with my GRT EFIS and engine monitor. Sometimes when I turn on the master, the oil psi will read as high as 10. If I turn the master off then back on, it goes down to 0-2 psi. Seems normal in flight.

A new VDO sensor cured the issue. It returns to zero every time now.
