Aerovee 20 amp generator

Postby bvolcko38 » Tue Jul 03, 2018 5:56 pm

I'm not getting charging current to my battery. How can I diagnose this problem? How much ac volts out of the generator and at what rpm? Is voltage measured between the two wires or between each wire and ground?
So far I've got 10v between one wire and ground at 1500 rpm. Nothing on the other wire. About 1 v between each wire
Thanks for the advice

The aerovee doesn't start putting out a charge until around 2000 rpm. Also, make sure your checking the wires coming out of the alternator with ac not dc. The regulator turns each leg of the alternator into a constant dc voltage.

Understand that it is ac out of generator. Voltage measured between wires?

Hi I just checked my voltage output last week for a fellow Sonex owner who thought he was having a problem.
How I checked my voltage was with a second volt meter attached to the battery which I could read in the cockpit.
At low RPM I was actually getting low voltage but as a raised the RPM voltage increased to about 13.9 at 3000 RPM.
At idle up to around 2000 RPM it did increase but read lower then I was expecting.
I was satisfied with the output at 3000 RPM.
