Flywheel Torque

I wanted a positive hold on the flywheel while torquing. My son and I cut a 1/4 inch plate on our Plasmacam to match the teeth on the flywheel. It can be clamped to a bench or something sturdy while you put the screws to the gland nut. I'm hoping I don't need this often so if anyone wants to borrow it just let me know.

Ed,
I've never seen a flywheel holder like that! Pretty cool.

Ok stupid question. Is the aerovee flywheel the same size as the regular VW flywheel? If so, there's already an off-the-shelf way to lock it in place to torque the gland nut.

The vw flywheel lock doesn't work with the aerovee flywheel. I think it may be smaller than a stock flywheel but could be wrong. I just remember having one and it not working when I built up my motor.

Figured as much. Just wanted to make sure.

What I like about this setup is being able to clamp it to a bench. That way all you need to worry about is working the torque wrench.

I bolted a 2x4 to the prop hub and strapped the engine to the work bench.
