Static RPM

What static RPM should I be looking for in a new engine. I'm currently getting 3150 +/-. Should I be getting more?

I'd say that's pretty good! I wouldn't worry about anything over 3000 rpm on a new engine, so I think you're good to go.

I'm getting 3250 on mine but I haven't flown it yet or checked the accuracy of the tach so take it with a grain of salt.

I get 2,950 on climb out. I can get 3,000+ at WOT level flight, but I rarely see 3,100. I have the Sensenich adjustable prop on the lowest pitch setting. 29 hours on the engine.

Glad to see this thread. I've been wondering about this myself. I see 3200 WOT straight and level. I've heard of some seeing 3400. I'm using the Prince P Tip. I've tried richening the # 2 needle, but I didn't like the way it performed. I think it's tuned as well as possible for me. I'm at 27 hours on mine. Some have said it will get better with more time.

Just so everyone is on the same page and the numbers don't get confusing the original question was on static RPM. This is the RPM reached with the plane tied down and not moving. It is usually a little bit lower than what you would see in straight and level flight.

On the factory airplanes with our standard 54x44 Sensenich prop, we are usually seeing right around 3000 rpm static (full throttle with the tail tied down), typically see 3100 or so during an 80 mph climb, and will see around 3400 level flight at WOT (at around 2500 msl altitude).

Props can make a HUGE difference, so these numbers will probably not apply to folks using props from different sources, even if they are supposed to be the same pitch and diameter.

2860rpm static on the ground adjustable sensenich prop. Saw 3000rpm full noise straight and level with the finest pitch pin provided.

That's almost exactly what I see with my engine.
