Aluminum Cylinders

Hello everyone!
I'm building Onex #090 and will start building my Aero Vee soon.
I bought the aluminum cylinders (don't really know why, just sounded good)
Has any one had any experience with them, good or bad? Having worked for VW
for for almost 1/3rd of my life, I've assembled many egines, never with alum.
Cylinders. Watching this forum I've seen temp. Issues discussed.
Secondly, there seems to be a lot of ignition and aero injector discussion.
Are these things something I have to expect or can they be avoided by a very
careful assembly process?
Lastly, has any one had their rotating parts balanced, or is it not needed?
One discussion here had a photo of "red anaerobic sealer on the case" the rods seem to
have been "worked" on...(polished/weight balanced)
Kerry, if you are watching, you have never seemed too "dangerous" .

Frank,

With your experience you should have no trouble assembling the AeroVee. However, a word of caution. Do not assume everything fits. Check tolerances. I will tell you my tale of woe. I assembled my AeroVee and the instruction were very good. However, the parts come from different vendors with different tolerances. Specifically, in my case, the stator. The instructions explain how to "paint" the magnets to be sure they do not rub on the stator, which I did. But you really need to "paint" the entire stator to be sure it is not rubbing any where. In my case the thickness of the stator was more than the space allotted to it. The front of the stator was rubbing against the trigger assembly. When I was flying the plane I could smell what I thought was hot fiberglass, the cowl gets quite hot during the break-in period. However, now I believe it was the stator plastic insulation heating up and coming apart. As a result the trigger assembly came loose, the magnet ring came loose, and the fly wheel came loose. Not a good scenario. I have pictures if you would like to see them, but the point is to not assume anything, check everything. As you know the engine is pretty simple and when it is finally dialed in should be a great little engine.

Thanks, Tom for the reply and information about the electrical and ignition
Clearance problems. I will pay close attention during the assembly.
As far as the aluminum cylinders, Sonex has dropped the supplier for some reason
And no longer offer them. I can return them for steel cylinders and credit.
There is a "newer" style throttle cable available (larger dia.) I will order and
Install, whitch I will install in hopes of avoiding a sticky throttle.
I have their baffle kit I hope will avoid most heating issues.
Anyone having any advise for me will be greatly appreciated.
