Looking for information from those who have had to overhaul their Aerovee. What was your total time before you felt you had to change crank bearings? What was your primary determination that they needed replacement? Thanks for any feed back.

Gary, at 200 hrs. I was leaking oil from the center case studs. Initially I was going to re-RTV the studs and retorque the nuts. As I torqued the nuts the crank quit turning. The only logical thing to do was overhaul. I did not build the engine, but it seems that metal flakes got under the center bearing, don't know if it was torqued properly. Checked the case out and it was in specs. so no machining needed. 18 hrs. so far on the rebuild and running well. I will be taking a 5 hour trip this weekend to MN.
On aside, your aerobatic videos have been a real inspiration. The split S is a fun manuever even though the first one was performed when I fell out of my first attempt at a roll.
