Thanks Dale! I'll cut a few threads off of my bolts. I just drilled them for safety wire last night.

A double gasket seems like trouble to me.

Airplane is back together and the test run was good. My valve cover bolts were not too long. I checked with no gasket or seal around the bolt.

Progress - I flew for one hour this morning. Lots of oil out the breather. The belly was a mess. No oil on the hangar floor. I'm assuming that for the breather mess I just need it to puke until it's at a happy level. For the rest of it, I don't think I've succeeded in the quest, but it's enough to not oil up the floor. First time ever that I could lay on the hangar floor under the cowl without cleaning it first.

As far as this breather thing goes - I wish I had one on all my old cars. They would never rust.

I wonder what would happen if the breather was on the oil fill spot and visa versa. Then the cam gear would not sling oil at the breather.

Edit: or maybe the fuel pump blockoff for the breather.

Valve covers make a good location for vents. CB Performance sells the required fittings 2 for ten bucks.

Two are always better.
Even if one was sufficient, my OCD about symmetry would dictate a matched pair.

From what I've read since you put forth the idea, the 3/4 side fills with oil at higher RPMs and the 1/2 side doesn't. That's our left side, car right side. Any opinions on that?

Correction - they sell 2 for $9.95. And, if your shopping cart is less than $10, they won't let you check out.
