Fuel tank plug-style cap failures

Thanks for the replies! I had to spend some xtra time fitting the tank so the cap would fit
the filler pocket nicely. Now I know it was worth it. Also I think you have to cut the top of the tank opening
to use the plug type cap, and I really did not want to do that.
I have heard of guys installing opps fittings to the tank before the install to prevent possible leaks.
Is that really necessary, or advisable?
