I'm all for saving money but for the $8 you would save why not just buy it from sonex. You will be sure to get the right one and can also be sure It has been tested and works on the aerovee. Having one of the other guys boots crack, break or leak during a flight could end up as a really bad day. An induction leak is going to cause at least two of your cylinders to no longer function when flying.

There is a certain value in supporting Sonex as a company. It would not do any of us any good if they weren't around anymore.

I am for saving a buck where I can but I also want Sonex to be around in the future when I need them to support me and my airplane.
BUY from Sonex, they need the support so that we have support.

The brand (AeroFlex) is not the same as the one Sonex uses but the product seems similar and applicable.
AeroFLEX is commonly used on intercooler piping , intake piping , radiator hoses , methanol fuel hose and has many more applications.


I’ve just ordered some of the straight hose & reducers as I will require them to build my intake manifold.

They also stock all the hoses, AN fittings, etc. you would ever require on your project BTW, I’ve gotten all of mine from them:

I just received the boots from sonex - they fit the intake manifold fine but appear too large for the intake fittings on the head ,seems like just a reversal of the old radiator hose problems, they fit snug tho the head fittings and were too big for the intake manifold tubes Tim Waiex 0146

Just a point of clarification. The old style hose isn't radiator hose. It is fuel filler hose like the type that runs from your gas filler to the gas tank on your car. Radiator hose isn't fuel or oil resistant and shouldn't be used. I found this out over the weekend when i had to cut the old boots off to get the intake elbows off to torque the heads. The hose is about $15 a foot at napa if you get stuck like I did and don't want to wait for it to be shipped from the sonex factory.

Keith, do you know you don't have to remove the intakes for re torquing? Just use a 15mm combination wrench. The box end fits perfectly over the 1/2" drive end of the torque wrench. You'll have to recalc the torque value for the addl leverage of the combo wrench; if a 6" length, set the torque value to 14 ft lbs instead of normal 18 lbs ( only on the bolts requiring the combo wrench).

Just keep the combo wrench in the same axis as the torque wrench.

I thought about using a crows foot adaptor but didn't have any in metric. I didn't think to use a regular box wrench. Thanks for the tip.

If you keep the box end wrench 90 degrees to the torque wrench you don't have to recalculate anything as the inches haven't changed.
