Aerovee Ground

The manual indicates a ground wire from the battery to the starter bolt and then suggests, in addition to that, an alternate ground wire to the engine block itself. I'd like to know where others have actually been landing there ground wire.

Here is my grounding point at the starter bolt:


I think I ran a wire from there to the distributor hold down bolt, which is still there but otherwise unused. I'll check next time I'm over.

They signed off on those metal clamps on the engine mount or are they padded and just can't see it?

My inspector as adamant against using anything that wasn't cushioned/padded on the motor mount. Even zip ties. I have seen pics of the damage that stuff can cause to the mount.

If so make sure you pull them off at every condition inspection and check the mount tubes for wear/damage!

I've been around airplanes and mostly home builts for 25 years. I'd like some photos of zip ties damaging something. My Kitfox is over 20 years old with nearly 1000 hours on it. As the original zip ties occasionally break off from dry and brittleness (AZ), you can barely see where they were. Its usually just a bit cleaner.

I've looked at dozens of airplanes with zip ties on them and have NEVER seen any issues. Yet I hear people advise against them all the time. I always ask for pictures and have yet to see any.

It's out-of-focus in this pic, but in the lower-left of the image you can see my ground connection to the engine block. It's the connector with a yellow sleeve on it. I used the empty hole on the bottom-left-rear corner of the engine block.



Sidenote: most of the zipties visible in this picture I did end up swapping out for strips of silicone tape.

Here is where I connected my ground block to the AeroVee case. I think that stud was for the distributor hold down. The other wire tied to it is from my oil pressure sender.
