The AeroVee doesn't really *need* an oil filter, unless you're talking about the turbo. In the case of the turbo unit itself, we need to keep any particulate out of the bearings, so a filter is added somewhere to the oil circuit. Whether we filter all the oil as it passes through the mini sump, or filter it through the remote oil filter adapter on its way to the turbo, the turbo's oil still gets filtered prior to entering the turbo. If the rest of the engine is fine without filtered oil, then I don't see a problem filtering only the fraction of oil going to the turbo (as opposed to filtering all the oil, all the time).
I'm not recommending going against Sonex's published instructions, but I think we should remember what they're trying to accomplish.
