Discussion of the Aerovee kit engine.

erovee first start

Postby bvolcko38 » Mon Jun 25, 2018 10:32 am

Started engine for first time Saturday. Aerovee engine with VDO oil pressure sender.
Oil pressure came up quickly to 14psi while cranking engine, engine started, and oil pressure never went over 20 psi even at mid throttle.

Did not get an RMP reading either. Switched leads on voltage regulator for tach and now show 7000 rpm at idle.

Can't get an ammeter reading useing MGL amp

Open to suggestions.

I think the MGL has a setting for how many tach pulses per rev the alternator generates, if I remember correctly the correct number is in the Aerovee manual.

For the oil pressure, make sure the MGL has the correct settings for the sensor in the oil pressure setup, need to know max pressure (typically 5 or 10 bar) and resistance. The max pressure is imprinted on one of the hex flats of the sensor along with model number, should say "0-5" or "0-10". If the pressure is steady at 20 it sounds like you have set 0-5 if the sensor is a 0-10, that would give a reading of half the real pressure. The oil pressure relief normally opens in the 40psi range.
