Seal starter hole for cooling?

Seal starter hole for cooling?

I'd like to seal the hole in the case that the starter pops through, how have you done it? Can I seal it with a flat piece of aluminum? Is the case thickness enough for clearance? Or do I need some kind of "cap"?
