To Fuel Vent Mod or Not?

I have a legacy Waiex TD with a fuel vent built per plans. The airplane is getting close to inspection and first flight. I see reference to modified fuel vents on this site but I am having a hard time deciding whether modifications are needed or not based on what I am reading.

Bottom line, Should I modify the original vent set up? If yes, best procedure/design. If no, what are potential issues?
Thanks for any and all opinions.

On my plans there are two possible vent scenarios. One coming from the filler area then heading down and out the bottom, the other sticking up a few inches to allow for a fuller tank.
Either one could/should be complimented with Peter Anson's check valve.
I personally went with the vent above the cowl facing into the breeze. (I would say wind, but I have the 80hp engine)
I have never had a drop of fuel exit the tube.

I'm guessing you are talking about a modification like Mike Smith has though.

What you don't want is what I witnessed on the factory Xenos. The vent tube is attached at the rear of the tank at the upper-most fitting where a fuel quantity sight-tube should go. It then runs forward through the firewall and out the bottom. Anything close to a full tank gets gas flowing out of that vent.

There may be practical difficulties with what I am about to say however the principal is sound;

Take your vent tube to the highest point in the aircraft - give it 2 or more loops - exit out the lower fuselage.

Should not be so hard to include an aluminium tube (breathers can me made using malleable brake tube or similar), of this design/location in the build stage.

For the most part this will accommodate fuel expansion on hot days. Will not vent fuel /fumes anywhere neat hot engine components. Will not be influenced by your aircraft being parked on a slope or being flown out of balance.

Ok, I see the options on the plans now. I think I will stay with the original build for now and see how it goes. Thanks for the replies!
