Stabilator fiberglass tip trimming

Postby iweshuff » Mon Oct 31, 2022 12:37 pm

I know that I need to trim the fiberglass tip for the Stabilators so that it will fit properly, but how much? My measurements put the cut at 1.25" from the open end. Can someone tell me if that is about right? I hate to cut the tip just to find out that everyone knows that it should be closer to 1/2".
Many Thanks

Wes,
I don't recall the numbers but I'm sure I did it iteratively. It is much easier to cut a little more off than it is to put more on. Of course, with fiberglass you can put more on and I've done that on an RV7 wingtip, but that is a pain. The goal is to get the end of the tip to align with the ruddervator. You can do some calculations based on geometry to get close.
