Dual exhaust

Postby Murray Parr » Sun Nov 24, 2024 12:10 am

Here are some pics of my exhaust system which was necessary in order to create space for my 'Meredith effect' cooling duct (yes, I nerded out researching all I could on Mustang and Meredith effect). Wish I did this earlier. Need to make the tail pipes which will act as ejectors beside the new cooling duct, then I will check back exhaust pressure to make sure everything is ok before flight testing resumes.

Finally got to the testing stage!

Density altitude of 3500' and 5650 RPM WOT produced 2Psi of exhaust back pressure. Rotax specified limit is 2.5Psi

I could trim the ejector nozzle a bit which should give slightly less back pressure but maybe not worth it and I am also worried about loosing a milli knot of speed if I do that....

I put the ejector/tail pipe in the press and made it oval shape for more clearance, probably need a bit more under the nozzles but so far no burn or rub marks appearing.
