Hinge pin

So, I have completed the vertical stabilizer on the Sonex Model B.
The hinge pin slides easy into the hinge on the Vert Stabilizer.

I have completed the rudder.
The hinge pin slides easy into the rudder.

BUT

When I try to put them together, it is a nightmare!

I have made a point on the pin, I lubricated the pin BUT it is still very difficult to install the rudder on the vertical stabilizer.

Is this OK? With a bunch of fighting, I can get the two together AND the rudder moves smoothly when installed.
Even though the rudder moves smoothly, will this wear out the hinge pin prematurely?

Probably a good question for Sonex tech support. But it's probably ok. It means the hinge halves are not straight on the assembly I think. When I'm drilling hinge halves to an assembly, I like to pin it to another piece of hinge to help hold it straight.

My hardware kit was from Wick's and the hinge halves had a nasty twist. Same as you, the pin went in either component without any particular difficulty, but when put together, the twists opposed each other and made it difficult to install the pin. It was very satisfying cutting those hinges up into 1in. pieces and recycling them.

Aircraft Spruce's hinges were laser straight and the pin could be installed without harsh language.

In addition to the point and the WD40, you can put the pin in a drill and spin it in that way...
