Sonex B Wing Tips (tip ribs)

I have my wing all clecoed together but cannot make the wing tip fit. The wing went together great, no twist. As for the tips, I followed the plans and the Sonex wing tip pdf. With the tip installed with a few clecos the entire tip bottom fits good as does the top from the rear spar to just forward of the main spar. From that point there is excessive gap between the skin and the tip flange to the leading edge.

The only thing that seems to work is to gently push the tip further under the top skin at that spot, but then I have excessive top skin over hang from the main spar to the leading edge (gradually increasing from the main spar then decreasing to none at the leading edge).

Does any one have any suggestions for working with the tips? Also would it be unwise to trim the skin that overhangs the tip? Its not much maybe an 1/8 at the widest.

I feel like I could make new tips quicker than trying to get these to work.

thanks

I have wing tips mounted (w clecos) and I would like to close up or fill in some of the gaps where the fit was marginal. I am wondering what procedures/methods others have used and what products were used in the process (ie Bondo or other).

Thanks,

Peter,

I like WEST Epoxy with their pumps and their 410 microlight filler. You can mask the wing skins with plastic packing tape and wax it and/or use PVA mold release on it. Sand the gel coat on the wingtip and then fill in the gaps.

I hacked up my first left wingtip to get it to fit. Then I spent more time on the right and got a decent fit. I bought another left wingtip and redid it. They fit pretty good, no bondo.
