Sonex Bucking Bar / Non Pre-Assembled B-Model Spars

Hey everyone. I (perhaps foolishly) decided to build my wing spars as opposed to getting them pre-assembled from the factory for my model-b. Does anyone out there have a Sonex bucking bar I could borrow for a few weeks(months)? I will happily pay shipping. Thanks in advance for the help.

If you can't come up with one locally, PM me with your shipping info. I also have a modified back-rivet tool for those pesky W16-08 rivets that hide under the spar cap.

Any chance you are going to the Northeast Sonex Gathering on the 8th? If so I have one I can get to you there. You may also want to look into making one yourself if you have local metal supplier. Lots of the suppliers sell cut-offs by the pound. It would probably be cheaper than shipping back and forth. The bar isn't anything special, just a piece of steel square stock with a relief cut out on one side to clear the angle of the spar cap.

I’ll try to make the fly-in with my son like last year, it was a great time. Hoping to start this sooner than September but really appreciate the offer, hope to see you there.

I missed last year due to some other family commitments but will be there this year and I'll bring it with me to the gathering. It's yours if you still need it then. Just ask Mike or one of the other organizers to point me out if you don't run into me walking around.

Nothing foolish about it at all! It's a great feeling of accomplishment, and saves a bunch of $$. Including scratch building all the individual parts it took me about 130 hours to make both spars. The first one took about 90 hours, and the second one about 40.

Thanks for the positive words of support Mike. I am all about saving a couple bucks, especially if it means putting in some sweat equity, just a little apprehensive about attempting this. Got the original idea to forego the assembled spars from a SonexFlight podcast, so we will see how it goes since according to the factory, I am the first B-Model builder to attempt this. They (Sonex) doesn't even have a specific drawing for this kind of scenario so I am combining the SNX-W08 drawing with the conversion drawing. Kerry has been very helpful so far and I am sure he will be getting plenty more e-mails from me. Everyone has been very helpful, friendly, and supportive on here including Jeff Shultz, Gary Motley. Just a shout out to Randy, who is doing me the solid of helping me out with the bucking bars and I really appreciate it. Will have the updates coming soon on my website/blog.

Mike, look forward to seeing you again at the annual Northeast Sonex fly-in in a few weeks.

I am finishing the tail kit for my Waiex. The rest of the kit is on order. It didn't include the rear spar to fuselage attachment bar that is included for the front spar. The one I installed on the front attached with extra long rivets that pass through the rib ends, spar and the thick bar which required bending prior to installation. The rear spar calls for flush rivets where the bar will be attached when I receive it. Sonex didn't sent pulled rivets instead of flush. They said they would send them but if I use them I'll have to get a dimpling die tool and squeezer for those rivets. Can anyone explain why I shouldn't just wait for the bar to arrive with the kit and attach it with long pulled rivets like the front spar?

Not sure this is the thread to ask. I’d post in the Waiex or Waiex-B section since from the turtledeck back is identical for legacy and B models. I’m building up the wing spars which was the original focus of this thread on my T tail Sonex so unfortunately I have nothing to contribute to your question, sorry. Best of luck finding your answer.
