Any other B-model builders out there?

I built my Waiex tail kit in summer 2015 (which I bought in 2011!), but I didn't have the time or money then to buy the rest of the kit. Fast forward a year and I had the money to buy my airframe kit last October, and in the meantime they released the new B-models! So I'm building Waiex B #21.

Good build log. Interesting to see Sonex has gone up to 1/2" spar pins and that they include a drill bushing for the main wing spar. One thought, would be cool to use a 3/8" OD 1/4" ID bushing inside that bushing for the first hole. That would let you drill up in steps.

Did you fly the C130? I had a friend who flew them when she was in the Air Force. Her husband did too and they loved the Herc. I am more of a C140 guy myself.

Thanks Bryan! Between your very detailed thread and a couple other build logs I feel pretty familiar with the build process already. So it's been interesting to see the differences with the B model.

Yeah I kinda thought about trying to step up transferring those half inch holes, but the drill guide is so solid I don't really know if it would make much of an improvement over drilling the pilot hole straight to 3/8" anyway.

Yup I'm a C-130J pilot in Little Rock. It is awesome!!!

I am Astro and this is my first Post.
I am also building a WAIEX-B (#17), I started 07Dec16 and the goal is to be flying Spring 2019.
I unfortunatly do not have a online blog - busy building ;)

Here is a question - As a builders log I keep record of the drawing#, date and time I am working on and here and there a picture - is that sufficent for the FAA.

Very curious to know how how the flap control linkage connects to the flaps on the B model?? Certainly different to mine.

That nutplate on the inboard drive rib connects to a short pushrod... I'm out of town today but I'll take a picture later!

Here's a picture to answer your question about the flaps:



The short pushrod bolts to the nutplate on the face of the flap drive rib. The pushrod is attached to the flap tube which runs across the fuselage. The flap tube is turned by an electric motor behind the right seat. Electric flaps come standard on the B-model, by the way, which I didn't even realize until I found the motor in a box of parts!

Really good to see Sonex finally change the recommended wing rigging method. This is a big improvement on the hit and miss piloted bit method.
Until now I was wondering how the attach blocks could be supplied updrilled to 1/2" and be able to line up. It appears to be only the right set are pre CNC bored. The left set are bored with the wings mated using the drill guide. Is this correct Spaceman?

Thanks Chris? I was wondering why things changed and thinking it must be something to do with the wider fuse width at the front but I can now see its because of the electric actuator.
