B Model w/ Jabiru 3300 - Muffler vs. Straight Pipes

Postby WilliamBatten » Fri Nov 04, 2022 6:40 pm

When you order an engine from the Jabiru dealer (Arion Lightning) for a Sonex - they automatically send you the straight pipes for the exhaust system. My question is: Has anyone fitted the muffler (standard for the Jabiru aircraft and Lightning aircraft) into a B Model cowling? I know it would never fit in the Legacy Model - just curious if the new B Model cowling can accommodate this muffler.

The issue is the real estate in the A model with a 3300 is tight. The muffler would probably fit in the cowling but interferes with the standard oil cooler placement. If you can find somewhere on the B model to relocate the oil cooler you may be able to use a muffler.
The straight pipes do sound awesome, but I would appreciate a lower cockpit noise level.

Tuned header with equal length primaries would be better yet.
