Wing Control Surfaces

Guys and Gals I would like some opinions from the flying crowd, in particular regarding the Choice of Acro V Standard ailerons with particular regard to the flap performance does it make full flaps more reasonable, from what i hear most people dont use full flaps on the standard flap configuration.

It's funny that even in a Cessna 172 people say you can't use the full 40 degrees of flaps.

Here are a couple of threads that discuss the tradeoffs and have opinions presented.

Used them all the time on 150 and 172. Electric was easy. Press the switch. If using the earlier Johnson bar variant - the trick to getting the last 10 degrees was to momentarily unload the wing as you pulled the handle (I do the same on the Sonex to get 30 degrees).

The 150 could be made to drop like a stone into a short field with Flaps 40. (And we skip the OWT about not slipping with flaps in Cessnas - there is no prohibition in any of the Owners' Manuals about this - just a caution about possible horizontal stab buffeting)

I agree. 40 degrees in the 150 was a parachute. I rarely carried them all the way to the ground but but the hand bar made them a very manageable tool in different landing conditions.
