Installing Skin on Waiex B Stabilator

Postby wlajara » Tue May 25, 2021 10:42 pm

I just finished putting together the substructure for both Stabilators. Unfortunately I'm not getting the holes on the skin to match the rib installed on the hand clip. Not sure what to do here. I think I already damaged one of the skins trying to get it to fit. Any advice out there. First time builder.

Installing Skin on Waiex B Stabilator

You have the skins orientated correctly. My skins went on effortlessly backside. Took some pulling for the top side. They didn’t just flip over and line up. I worked it slowly and used a ton of Cleco. I can snap some pics today. I still have not final drilled mine.

I'm not totally following what you mean by hand clip. I had issues with my WIX-T11-09 rib length. I documented my tail issues & solution on pages 1 and 2 of my thread:

Check the last post on page 1 and the 5th on page 2.

Thanks for your reply. I attached 3 photos to see if this helps. I don’t see that section on your photo.

I have to wait to get home to look over some video of when i did this but i am pretty sure i clecoed the rest of the skin before i got to the clip, As far as the damaged holes you might be able to oversize the rivets but it would depend on edge clearance.

As far as the process for attaching the skin start on one of the long edges either top or bottom, then work your way length wise to cleco the next set etc, i am assuming you drilled those rib holes with the skin clecoed in this manner.

Dont worry to much about the radius and use the length of the edge from the far side and you can mess around with the folding that edge at the end the last row of clecos seemed like the hardest for me.

The leading edge rib should be attached to it’s corresponding clip with the flanges of the rib pointing toward the stabilator tip, to the right in your photo. That would position the rib under the skin holes.
