Turning Radius for a Onex

I am getting close to installing the brakes. Does anyone know if a Onex can do a 180 degree turn on a 50 foot runway with standard brakes? If it can, I will not need differential brakes.

Thanks,

Jim

I think you can. I have a nose wheel and have the two small springs connected to the steering arm. When I make a sharp 180 the spring is stretched but if I pull hard on the brake while turning the wheel will turn all the way. If you have a tail wheel that's another problem.

Hydraulic non differential brakes and never had issues with turning in a sonex. It is the tail wheel set up more than brakes that will determine turning. My solid coupled tail wheel does not swivel so it only turns to about 45 degrees. I think you will be fine without diff brakes

I have toe brakes on mine with the standard tail wheel and switched to the swivel tailwheel to utilize the toe brakes. No turning radius change with either brake setup if you want to stay with the sonex tailwheel.

Thanks, for everyone's input. It appears that I will be able to make a 180 degree turn using Onex's standard brakes.

Thanks,
Jim
