Onex panel

[Onex11]

Hi,

I am Onex11 delivery due for august 2011. In the meantime, I have been spending my spare time dreaming my future panel. Here is my first pass:

I am still in the dreaming/saving stage. I'm planning on a sonex.... but I have been thinking of a very similar panel as yours with the Xtreme on the left, Garmin on the right and small "stack" of 2 1/4 com/transponder in the middle. I've got a microair that I picked up discounted. I've heard mixed reviews on it. Hopefully it will work out.

Thanks for trying out the forum. I'm hoping it catches on because I also get frustrated with the yahoo groups interface.

I am looking forward to share infos with other Onex builders. I am sure we will have to experiment with some aspect of the construction and it will be nice to be able to exchange.

The beauty of this forum is the ability to separate the subjects of interest i.e. Sonex, Onex, etc. The pictures capability is also worthed. I have found very interesting discussions on Yahoo but it takes time to go through all the emails to find subject of interest if not connected every day.

With an expected delivery date in August, I gather onex11 refers to your reservation number. Wish that I has pulled the trigger sooner, #89 here. I waited until I went up there for the Builders Workshop.
Do you have the actual dimensions of the panel? I should have made a few measurements and detailed photos when I was there.

Were you at the spring workshop this past April? My wife and I were there....ordered the tail kit just before departing.

Thanks Sean - my wife and I were working on it this morning. Taking a break for lunch....

It's been a really good experience coming off that workshop and straight into working on the tail. We've made a few mistakes, but nothing major and are getting more comfortable with every part we complete.

Had an EAA Technical Counselor come visit a couple weeks ago, and he's also a family friend - always good to have a seasoned veteran look at what we're doing.

We also managed to borrow my in-law's nice Arbor press to do a bend on a thick piece this weekend.

Hi Chris: I see you are in Canada....like me. I'm building a Sonex. I was talking to my MD inspector about the
enigma I want to use. He says the regs say we need to have non electronic ASI, VSI and ALT. But if the electronic gauges
have battery backup, we MAY be OK. I sure hope I dont need steam gauges.......the panel is too small as it is!
Before you cut metal for the panel, it would be good to check with your inspector, to see what he says.

I sure hope we don't need steam gauges ! I just installed an Xtreme in my RV-4 and was going to pull all the old gauges . I guess I better look into this .

I haven't started playing around with panel configurations yet but I would try to keep the EFIS centered in the panel . Having it offset messes with my OCD !
