Onex Finished Empty Weight

Postby JT1974 » Mon Feb 29, 2016 12:47 pm

Hello everyone.

I'm building Onex 182 and I would like to know what some of the "real world" finished Onex planes weigh. I'm 6'3" tall and around 250lbs so every pound counts. If you have finished a Onex could you please post your final empty weight? Also maybe a couple of specs (i.e. tricycle or tailwheel, long vs. short wingtips, painted or polished and any significant bells and whistles that were added).

Finally, would the W&B work on your finished Onex with a 250lb pilot with both full fuel and 3 gallons of fuel in the tank (required minimum)?

P.S. I'm already on a diet and hitting the treadmill and hope to get to 235, but that would be about the skinniest I see myself ever realistically getting.

Thanks!

I thought that the stall speed was the limitation for pilot weight not gross.

My Onex, 090 weighs in at 601 pounds. It has 19'6" span, conventional gear, AeroVee, steam gauges, strobes and position lights, Kips larger tail wheel set up and firewall mounted 685 battery.
It is not painted yet but will soon be and I figure that will add 35#s to the weight. I weigh 220# and hope to get lighter soon.
My C.G. is in the forward 2/3 limit and is still good.
I don't have my exact W&B handy where I am now.

Thanks for sharing your info Frank. I watched the YouTube video of your first flight on the NWA wingman youtube channel and your plane sounded great and looked like it performed great too. I think I'm going to polish my Onex and just paint the cowl, wingtips and wheel pants so I'll probably be able to keep it close to 600lbs.
