Foot Pedal Extension

Postby Dennis » Mon Jul 27, 2015 4:38 pm

Onex Builders!

Has anyone design something that would attach to the existing foot pedals that would move the pedals closer a few inches. I'm 6'2" and had set the pedals forward to accommodate my long legs.......now I have someone that wants to fly it but is shorter. I know I can remount them closer but was hoping someone else had the same issue and had come up with a better solution.

Thanks
Dennis

What ever you use just be aware of the potential for problems. One well known aerobatic pilot crashed because of rudder pedal extensions.

You might want to consider getting a different thicker seat cushion. When I visited Sonex to try the Onex on for size they had a seat cushion in there that fit the Monnetts and Joe Norris. Those cushions were a few inches thick on the seat and the back, which put those shorter pilots a few inches higher in the cockpit AND a few inches closer to the rudder pedals. I'm 6'3" and I couldn't fit in the Onex with the factory cushions in place, but when we removed the cushions and placed one of the 1" thick yellow Sonex seat cushions in the plane it fit me like a glove. Just my two cents, but I saw first hand how changing the seat cushions in the Onex could make the plane work for someone who is 5'6" and 6'3".

This long waist-ed, but short legged pilot split the seat back cushion, pilots side is a shaped curve about 4' thick at bottom and 1" at top. Also made identical replacement seat back with standard 1-1/2" thick flat foam for "normal" folk.. Both held in place by flap to Velcro on back side of the upper cross tube behind the seat. Swap out takes seconds.
