It's the same for pulled rivets. Should not really be much difference in strength as rivets should be loaded in shear anyway. I bought a prebuilt spar so I can't comment on the goodness or badness of swapping the solid rivet direction for the spars. If you are just talking about riveting the ribs to the spars, it seems if you can get them set then the direction shouldn't matter. Not sure why it would be easier though.
