SNX/WIX-C07 sport trainer controls

This is a question for the masses of Sport Trainer builders/pilots. Which means I hope at least John Stewart and Joe Norris will answer me.
It looks like there is a lot less travel offered in the sport trainer configuration than the side flap handle configuration. Is this true, and is it to make the airplane more docile, or is there interference issues with the tank sump? See picture:
C07 view J-J shows the flap handle just to the right of the centerline. My weldment seems to put it left of the centerline and the handle mount is not right up against the phenolic block. Is my weldment bad or is that a plans update that has not happened yet?
In detail E, the alignment of the flap detent block is shown. If I align it like shown, the flap handle is not pushing against the detent block. I have to move the detent block left a bit to make a positive contact.
The plans say not to drill the holes in the spar tunnel until you verify you can hit all the detents. How in the heck do you do that, is there super duct tape technology that I am not familiar with?
So far lots of questions, but here is one contribution. Do not drill the aft most 3 holes in the flap detent block until it is located by the forward two rows of three holes. There are already holes in the aft part of the forward Z which drill into the big extrusion. Wait and pick up the holes that you intersect.
