I'm no sure if I mounted the hung correctly on the side panel. Should the hinge curl in like I have. Or should it curl outward. Pics are of the right panel laying flat on the outside facing down.

Also how will the retaining pin slide in, from the bottom?

They are going the right way
The cowl is about 1/8" thick and butts up to the side skin and angle, it hides the hinge loops when the cowl is fitted..
The pin is inserted from the bottom via a small cutout in the cowl.

Thank you guys. I did search for an image on a build and could find it quick enough to settle my own self questioning once again, did I screw up! Onward and upward. If I'm not making scrap, I'm not making progress...LOL

Can you elaborate on what it is you screwed up?
What I can see in the picture looks fine to me, the hinge has to "curl" (as you say) inwards, not outwards, just like it is in your picture.

I've been searching through my kit log to see if some posts contain pictures of my installation, here's the best I could find, you can see the position of the hinges in this posts:

Apparently I didn't make a mistake here. I looked at the hinge and saw there was no way to insert the pin from the top. I've remade nearly the whole aft fuse in pieces three times, and countless pieces of angle. Aft fuse was a mis measure, off an inch. I've seen some parts that people make, and even knowing the sonex is over engineered... The crash due to the tail falling off because of bad riveting... It drives me to make sure I do a great job.

The hinge just looked wrong, even looking at the print I needed to double check on this board. Don't want to redo, better to ask before riveting, lots of hard work. Scratch build here.

Reminds me of Tony Spicer in his video "Right Seat with Tony Spicer" making the statement that he probably built three and threw two in the dumpster. As sad as it is ... it is refreshing to know I'm not the only one that had to do a few things over.

Are you referring to the accident of Oct 22, 2011 involving a "Berger Waiex, N75654" near Washington, Georgia?
If so, the NTSB Accident ID is ERA12FA018, and there is a complete accident report available for download.
Included in the report is the following:

"The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident to be:

The in-flight failure of the aircraft’s Y-tail attachment structure during maneuvering flight due to overload. Contributing to the accident was, the kit manufacturer’s use of 14 CFR Part 23, Appendix A design guidelines intended for a conventional tail airplane without a V- (or Y-) tail."

Looking at the photos included with the report, I can see how someone might form the opinion that the accident was the result of poor craftsmanship, but that would just be someone's opinion, and not the findings of the NTSB. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I believe that opinion should be made based on the complete report and not on parts of it posted by myself or others on the internet.
