WXB-0038 part W13-04 doubler

Postby wingnut99 » Wed Nov 21, 2018 4:19 pm

Drawing WXB-W12 appears to show the part being attached to the back of the rear spar which makes sense because if it were on the front it would have to sit on top of the rear rib flange and that would create a gap under it going from one side to the other, however when I place it on the rear of the spar the lower spar flange makes contact with the bottom of the part and the predrilled holes are off about half a hole. What am I doing wrong here? I could line it up as close as I can get it and redrill a couple of pilot holes and I think it might be ok when I up drill but has anyone else run into this? I'm waiting 3 days on a response from Sonex on a backorder question so if I'm going to get this resolved I'm going to be better off asking you guys.

Did you radius the bottom of the doubler as shown on page W-13? The view is at the bottom of the page.

No I didn't. I was about ready to grind a 1/16th off the bottom. I guess that would accomplish the same thing. Thanks for pointing that out. Wingnut

My plans for the SNB-W13 page does not show anything about radius'ing the part. They were printed in February. Got a pic?

Yes. I'll send you a PM with the pictures.

Can't figure out how to add pictures. Email me and I'll send them that way if you wish.

Hi,

I am stuck in this problem as well. The doubler for the hole that the aileron push tube is going through looks like it is supposed to be on the aft side of the rear spar.
Based on Section L-L on the spar assembly page. However, the holes do not line up (it will require the bottom of the double to be ground).

I see some a youtube video where someone placing it on the front side of the spar (facing the front of the aircraft). doing so, would not require grinding.
Did you get a response from sonex or figured it out? Mind sharing?

It needs to go on the aft side of the spar. As pointed out, it will interfere with a rib if installed on the forward side.

Apparently, the view that shows the 1/8in radius on the Legacy print didn't get carried over to the B's.
