Darick's Sonex #1646

Postby Darick » Tue Apr 15, 2014 9:47 am

I ordered the kit Oct. 2013. I got off to a slow start due to a house remodeling project that needed finished first. So far I've completed the horizontal stab, vertical stab, pitot tube assembly and right aileron, in that order. The building would go faster if I wasn't so picky about the details.

Just thought I'd add my version of the forward rib mod which is now on the wing.
The original picture was lost in a cyber black hole and showed more detail than this old picture. But here's what I did. I cut out the space between the two lightening holes and added a stiffener in between, one on the top and one on the bottom which is evident by the extra nine rivets. The small stiffener was shaped like a bullet, that is rounded off on each end, with a 1/8" bend along one side, much like the gussets on each rib.

I wish I had done the forward rib mod like yours so I could more easily connect the flap push rods to the flap handle actuator. My wrists and knuckles are still raw from trying to thread the nut and bolt and put in the cotter pin! This should be a mandatory mod! Looks great!

Progress continues...right wing finished and will continue with left.

Wing lighting wires run through the forward tooling holes for the first few ribs, then after the pitot tube, the wires are routed through the aft tooling holes.

Sweet! Nice job Darrick, your wing storage solution looks vaguely familiar!

In my mind, another milestone...the fuselage takes shape in just a few weeks.
